Casinos Employees Face Hazards

Casino employees face harm to their healthiness for the reason of long hours and deprived conditions, as set by a new report. The study on the state of casino working conditions by the GMB union has come just as Glasgow gets ready to bid for a license to operate a Las Vegas-style super-casino. Last month, a development company unveiled plans for a £1.2 billion tourist purpose built about such a venue, bringing the number of proposed casinos for the city to four.

But the account has exposed that working conditions are such that three-quarters of the croupiers at the city's five casinos suffer back and neck problems, while a fifth suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome, a type of cyclic strain injury that results in numbness and tingling in their hands due to excessive weight on nerves. Almost 80 per cent of workers also complained of chronic fatigue and sleep disturbance from working extreme late hours. The GMB study also exposed an unparalleled rise in violence since 2003, with assaults trebling.
